Checking The Pulse Of The Kansas City Real Estate Market

Overland Park Kansas is an amazing destination for relocation buyers moving to the Kansas City area. In CNN Money’s 2008 ranking of the Top 100 Best Places To Live in the country, Overland Park Kansas ranked #9. If you want to see some reader opinions on the article and city, then check out Money Magazine’s blog related to the top places to live. Like any anonymous comment boards, you’re going to have some nay-sayers but I’ll tell you that Overland Park is an amazing city.

Keep in mind that State Line road separates Johnson County Kansas (where Overland Park is located) and Jackson County Missouri and there’s a rivalry that dates back to the Civil War that pitted the two states against each other. Some residents will go as far as to say they wouldn’t ever consider moving from one side of the state line to the other. Now that’s a rivalry. Anyone involved in a Kansas City relocation will quickly find out about the Kansas Jayhawks versus Missouri Tigers rivalry – and the dividing line is often State Line Road.

As the largest suburb in Johnson County Kansas, Overland Park played an important role in Forbes Magazine 2008 rankings of the America’s Best Places To Raise A Family. In 2007, National Geographic chimed in naming Overland Park Kansas one of the Top 10 Places To Live and Play in the country. Buyers looking south of I-435 in Overland Park will be served almost exclusively by the award winning Blue Valley School District. A small portion of southwestern Overland Park is served by the Olathe School District and Overland Park north of I-435 is served by the Shawnee Mission School District. Overland Park offers more than 250 restaurants, diverse shopping destinations, entertainment options, 25 first class hotels, youth sport leagues, parks and recreation, job opportunities, corporate centers, master planned home communities, a 300-acre arboretum and the list really goes on and on. What I find especially great about Overland Park is that you can be 10 minutes from great amenities while also also being just minutes from being out in the country.  That’s convenience if you ask me. Depending on where in Overland Park you live you’re just 15-30 minutes from downtown as well. The city of Overland Park covers 56 square miles and has a population of more than 160,000.

There are also other amazing suburbs in Kansas City and in Money Magazine’s top 100 rankings, you’ll also find Olathe Kansas at #11, Shawnee Kansas at #39 and Lee’s Summit Missouri at #79.
